23min of Ska : Hard Sour Candy

23skahardsoursYesterday, Jan 23rd, 2019 was the 9 year anniversary of this show. A little ska mix thingy I started making for… honestly, I don’t even know what I was after. A lot of those early episodes are just me sharing some great overlooked songs and bands along with other late ’90s “classics.” It took a few years to turn into this, what it is now, a weekly modern ska focused podcast. It’s been fun, and well, there’s enough good ska still coming out that there’s at least a few years left in the concept! Also, since the vote last week was so close between and more ska, or a more ska/punk episode, I decided to give all you ska/punk fans what you were after!

00:00 – Monument Beach – the World doesn’t Change (Ska Shack ’18)
03:23 – Brainwreck – Pissing People Off (Charlie ’18)
06:46 – Talkbats – 반짝이는 / Twinkle Twinkle (the Talkbats 1st Single ’18)
10:45 – All Waffle Trick – What a Way to Spend the Night (What a Way to Spend the Night ’18)
13:35 – Mad in Ska – Et on ira (Et on ira ’18)
18:53 – Clase Media Ska – Ñosco (Clase Media ’18)

23min of Ska : Red Licorice

23skaredlicorice23min of Ska is back! Back with a new look, back with a new theme and back with a brand new episode! Oh, hells yeah! This is a great one, for sure. I want to point out that the second song is a brand new track from the Anchorage from their new EP due out next month. After hearing this I can’t wait! Of course, that isn’t the only quality track being brought to your ears. We also have some fantastic pretty new songs from the Kingstons and King Kong 4 that have been running through my head. Not to mention that Eric Daino track, which is rad, but so is the whole album! This is all mixed in with quality songs from the Magnetics, Contenders and the Dendrites that must be heard, before ending it with a sweet cover by Half Past Two that, well, I put them up to, and they nailed it!

00:00 – the Magnetics – Dr. Martins (Jamaican Ska ’18)
02:10 – the Anchorage – Donny (What We Go Through ’19)
05:44 – the Kingstons – Run (the Kingstons ’18)
09:00 – King Kong 4 – Drink in the Head (Songs for Olly ’18)
11:20 – Contenders – Gun (Dynamite ’17)
13:57 – Eric Daino – the New Jeff Rosenstock Album (PACKRAT ’18)
16:46 – the Dendrites – Booty Lu’s Canoe (Damn Right ’17)
20:02 – Half Past Two – Young Alien Types (Young Alien Types ’18)

23min of Ska : Living on the Edge

23ska-redplaidHere we go with another awesome episode of 23min of Ska. There is some pretty fresh tracks on this one! Green Room Rockers cover of “Wagon Wheel” from their Ska is Dead II 7″, as well as “They Say” from the reunited Inspecter 7! Not to mention the final song here from Johnny Cakes & the Four Horsemen of the Apocalpso, I don’t think that album has even come out yet! The rest of these songs are from bands I’ve just recently got into, the whole album from the Pandemics is great and I don’t know how I’ve been missing the Amalgamated for the last few years. Finally for the first time I’m playing some bands with ska puns in their names… but the Good Skamaritans and Abraskadabra were just too good to pass over!

the Good Skamaritans – Sitting on the Edge of the World (Let’s Rawk ’02)
Green Room Rockers – Wagon Wheel (Career Opportunities / Wagon Wheel ’12)
Abraskadabra – Let it Die (Grandma Nancy’s Old School Garden ’12)
Inspecter 7 – They Say (Escapes & Illusions ’13)
the Pandemics – Sleepy Sunday (New York City) (Brain on Tap ’12)
the Amalgamated – Keyser Soze (San Diego Ska ’11)
Johnny Cakes & the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypso – Responsible Adult (Curse of the Unsinkable Ship ’13)
