This is an episode that I’ve been thinking of doing for a looooong time, and I’m finally pulling the trigger. It was all because of the new single from the Guilty Parties which is the second track here. But yeah, this is ska being ska, singing about ska, singing about skanking, and celebrating itself the only way it knows how.

This episode is like twenty-three cups of coffee funneled directly into your veins. This episode is like a gallon of rocket fuel pour right onto your brain. This episode is like a pound of sugar dissolving into your bloodstream. Look, what I’m trying to say here is that it’s a fast one, and just when it starts to slow down… it picks right back up again.

I almost didn’t do this episode. When I was originally going to do this series of episodes I was only going to loosely base the song selection on the title, not the contents of the story. Outside of the comic, this phrase means nothing. But since I’ve tried to hit key story points, or my favorite story moments with the songs, I knew I had to go for it. It turned out pretty damn good! Then again, with bands as great as these, it’s not hard to assemble a great mix of music!
Why in the hell would I make an episode with such a tenuous link to a theme? As always, because I thought it would be funny. So I start going through my head, computer and CD collection looking for key words, and I kept finding great songs! These were songs that I hadn’t played on the show before! So, yeah, golf is kinda dumb, and I don’t even play, but a golf themed episode made me laugh and there was too many great songs popping up that I had to do it. If there was a patron saint of golfing I’d say they influenced me or something… wait… there is? And it’s St. Andrew… and I didn’t even play a single Scottish ska band on this episode? Er… damn, I wish I hadn’t looked that up right before I started typing this text! Anyway, water traps and sand pits ahoy, it’s damn time to take a few shots off of your game before getting out of the sun to retire to the bar in the country club for a few beers. Right? Nah, still boring.
Hey gang, check it out, another debut song for all ya’ll! It’s from los Kung-Fu Monkeys and their new album is due out next week and it kicks off with this same song! “Taking it Easy” indeed! But that’s not where the great music stops, no! There’s plenty more, so keep those computer speakers turned up, or those earbuds in your ears, because it’s another upbeat fun episode from 23 Minutes of Ska! (Remember kids if it’s not the 23min of Ska podcast, it’s either longer or shorter than 23 minutes and may or may not be ska.)
What does the future hold for us? We can plan and plan for it, but we have no idea what will actually happen in the end for any of us. Seriously, tomorrow is a hard mistress, and we have to be fluid to get through it unscathed. And even if you made it, don’t get too comfortable, cuz there’s always another tomorrow coming. Be prepared, be smart, but mostly, have fun, because we don’t know how many more tomorrows there will be for any of us to put up with.
Some of these songs have been kicking around in my head for inclusion for quite some time, I’m glad I finally am getting the chance to play them all for you! I hope this is another episode that you can listen to and enjoy, as I know for one that I really enjoy this episode.
