Sometimes you get an idea for an episode and you just have to go for it… right? Well I hope you all enjoy this episode as much as I did when putting it together.

Oh I am so excited to share this episode with you! Kicking it off w/ 2 brand new high energy songs from Coolidge and Cartoon Violence! Two of my favorite current bands bringing us all new music! Not that the rest of the tracks aren’t awesome, because they are, JER, Runaway Ricochet, WST Ska Orchestra, Small Town Get Up and the Fuss are also some of my very favorites, and favorites to share w/ you. Also the Moan, just discovered them and really wanted to share this track, hope you enjoy!

So each year, a few friends of mine celebrate “Johnny Socko Day” which is on May 6th, so this podcast, unfortunately, misses the silliness by a day. Basically, all we do is make Socko references to each other on social media and listen to Johnny Socko while we do our day jobs, you know some real corny goofball stuff. Anyway, I decided to make this episode of 23min of Ska in the same Socko celebration spirit! This is an episode that is chock full of Indiana’s finest ska and ska/punk bands, from way back when to the present day. So put on a pair of comfortable shoes, cut a rug and be the freakiest freak on the dancefloor!

Here’s the new episode folks! Hells yeah! I hope you dig it. If you do, tell your pals about this podcast, and hell, tell the bands (if you dug them) “hey” for me. You don’t have to mention this podcast or anything, just go be supportive of those bands. Alright? Deal? Deal! Yes, let’s all go support some awesome ska music. Let that be the 23min of Ska listener vow, “Let’s all go support some ska bands!” how does that sound? Too preachy? Too needy? Hrm… let’s’ work on this one… but it’s a good start none the less!

Five! The countdown is real… in case you haven’t noticed for the last eighteen episodes the titles have been counting down… but to what? Truth be told, it might be counting down to the end. The end of the podcast proper? When I started the countdown, yes, this is exactly what it was leading to. But I’m having second thoughts. Months ago when this countdown started it was when I was getting hardly any downloads, listens, shares, likes, what-have-you and zero feedback. It was depressing. Ska isn’t supposed to depress people. Then the month of January hit… and it has been crazy! Huge download numbers, a number of new listeners and several supportive comments… I’m kind of shocked. It makes me want to keep going. So what are we counting down to? Listeners, tell me what you want from this podcast, we’ll go from there! This show is nothing with out you and the bands, I’m just a middle man, hit me up, let me know! Maybe we’re just counting down to an even better version of 23min of Ska!

A celebration of the music of Johnny Socko I did for BobSkaRadio.com. Includes classic Johnny Socko tunes as well as some lesser heard gems. Also I got to talk to both of the Johnny Socko guitarists, Joe Welch and Chris Smail to hear what it was like to be on the other side of the stage. Not only do I bring the Socko musical goodness, I also take a break to play some songs from the Las Vegas Bodysnatchers and Coolidge, both bands full of Socko alums. All this, as well as stories from fans of the music!

Can you believe it? 5 years of 23min of Ska? That’s nuts! I had no idea that when I put the first episode together in January of 2010 that I’d ever have a handful of listeners or still being doing it even a few years later! I can honestly say that it blows my mind. To everyone out there that sends me songs to play (bands, labels, listeners) I say thanks, you help me find stuff that sounds great and helps make the show better! So I hope you all dig this episode, as well as all the episodes, and I’ll see you all here next year, yeah? And, as always, thanks for listening, and enjoy!
