23min of Ska : Movement of Souls and of Boxes

I hope it brings you the amount of joy that is equal to the amount of hate I am currently harboring towards cardboard boxes.

23min of Ska : Story Book

What’s the story fellow ska fans? I’ve got a fine new batch of songs ready to go! Oddly enough when I started this episode every song was from 1997 and 1998, but as the days went on I found more and more great bands that I just had include! Some of these I got by being super sneaky and stalkery on facebook, others I found when I went looking for new songs by other bands and happened to see mentions of these fine bands. Seriously, four of these bands I didn’t even know about until this month! The current state of ska continues to surprise and delight me. I couldn’t be happier to be putting together podcast for you guys every 11ish days, I hope you all continue to enjoy listening to this as I do making it!

the Heat Machine – 10 Things I Hate About Your Boyfriend (No Coast Dance Party ’09)
the Waffle Stompers – the Genius Behind Being a Fool (Black on Black ’08)
Hepcat – No Worries (Right on Time ’98)
Victor’s Lament – Living for Today (Victor’s Lament EP ’09)
Survay Says! – Tomorrow or Today (Well… Here it is! ’10)
the Agents – Long Time (401 ’00)
Critical Mass – It doesn’t Really Matter (Give it Up, Let it Go! ’97)

23min of Ska : Uncontrollable

Well this just may be the latest I’ve gotten one of these online! Here we go! I’ve tried to gather not only a bunch of good songs, but also a handful of overlooked songs from some awesome bands! I’ve pulled from my 7″ collection, import CDs, albums that have went out of print and even some from albums that were never officially released!

If you’re in a ska band and would like to be featured or if you know some music that you think I should hear for future inclusion, please email me at radjose[at]gmail[dot]com! I’ll play most anything.

23min of Ska : Meanies

Woo! More ska, and it is some of the meanest, rudest ska around this time for you. Or maybe not. I could’ve went more crass, but that didn’t turn out to be nearly as much fun as I thought it would, so much for a “theme episode”. If there’s a theme at all, I think it would be that a lot of these bands never really got their “due” as it were, in fact I think only the Suicide Machines did. I think the Blue Meanies were close and of course the Hub City Stompers, Amphetameanies and Johnny Nine & the Racers still have a chance if anyone would pay attention to how good they are. Sorely missed are Secret Society who are all but forgotten but always put on a hell of a show, and their album isn’t even bootlegged on dozens of websites like a lot of their other late 90s contemporaries.
