23min of Ska : Hello, My Name Is

23ska-diceThis one is for everyone that tells me that they can’t remember the songs that are played from week to week. The complaint is that they’re not sure what band is what. So I made it easy for all them. Each band is singing a song named after the band. If you have any questions, it is right there, wait for the chorus to come around again! Easy, huh?

Dance Hall Crashers
– DHC (Skankin’ Round the World 4 ’90)
Madness – Madness (the Prince / Madness ’79)
Cartoon Violence – Cartoon Violence (Whatever Happened to the Likely Lad? ’09)
Red Soul Community – Red Soul Community (Pump Reggae ’08)
Let’s Go Bowling – L.G.B. (Music to Bowl By ’91)
Lone Raspberry – Lone Raspberry (Children of the Horn ’96)
King Apparatus – King Apparatus (King Apparatus ’99)
Attaboy Skip – ABS (Another EP? ’97)

Rerun : Infinate

Woo! A flashback to the first episode that I did that got a lot of good comments on! It celebrates a lot of great bands! Orangetree was a great band from St. Louis, I saw them play several times, the lead singer Jason used to be in MU330, and was also known to jump all over audience members, which somehow always seemed to be me, it was hilarious. Other than them, this is chock full of well known bands, Madness is a total classic, Goldfinger is still kicking around w/o doing the ska-punk thing any more. The Impossibles and Dance Hall Crashers each left a legacy of fun albums in their wake and Mephiskapheles just plain cracked me up. Yup, other than Madness, this is a pretty good overview of ’90s ska, next episode I should stretch myself a bit more.

Madness – One Step Beyond (One Step Beyond ’79)
Orangetree – Pretzels (Fixing Stupid ’99)
Goldfinger – Carlita (Hang Ups ’97)
the Impossibles – Plan B (Back 4 the Attack ’98)
Dance Hall Crashers – He Wants Me Back (the Old Record ’91)
Stubborn Allstars – Tin Spam (Open Season ’95)
Mephiskapheles – Saba (God Bless Satan ’94)

23min of Ska : Over Flowing

Ska music, ever over flowing with happiness and mirth. It is not music for wallowing in a bad mood. It is music for cheering up or just keeping your happy going. It is music for dancing, celebrating and generally having a good time. That’s what we have here, a bunch of songs about throwing parties, having a great night out and the joys of mysterious ladies. Seriously listeners when you’re out this weekend may your fun and drinks be over flowing as well.

Maddie Ruthless & the Secret Affair – Heat Fever (Hold the Phone ’10)
the Boss Beats – Bad Habit (the First E.P. ’11)
the Heat Machine – See You in Hell (No Coast Dance Party ’09)
Dance Hall Crashers – I Want it All (Honey I’m Homely! ’97)
Half Past Two – Panic! (It’s About Time ’09)
Tip the Van – Place Like Home (Passion, Love & Pride ’09)
Low Pressure – Child of Distinction (Low Pressure ’97)

23min of Ska : Infinite

Woo! The infiniteness of ska! Spanning several decades! And yet, save the opening song, this is the most ’90s centric episode I’ve shared. Orangetree was a great band from St. Louis, I saw them play several times, the lead singer Jason used to be in MU330, and was also known to jump all over audience members, which somehow always seemed to be me, it was hilarious. Other than them, this is chock full of well known bands, Madness is a total classic, Goldfinger is still kicking around w/o doing the ska-punk thing much any more. The Impossibles and Dance Hall Crashers each left a legacy of fun albums in their wake and Mephiskapheles just plain cracked me up. Yup, other than Madness, this is a pretty good overview of ’90s ska, next episode I should stretch myself a bit more.
