This episode is for my friends, and by that I mean, you guys, my listeners. Also, the bands in this podcast contain some people that range from good acquaintances to long distance friends (except for doctormanette, I don’t even know anyone in that band). So this, is possibly, the one of the friendliest episodes of the show that I have ever put out! Listen with your friends! Also, re: the title “Three Hard Winters,” it’s a reference to Fimbulvetr, the three harsh Winters (without a Summer) in Norse mythology that is the prelude to Ragnarök.
I’m sleepy. I’ve had several long and strange days. I don’t want to talk about it, but they haven’t been bad, just nothing to brag about. But I will say this. Shaking yourself out of your normal routine can have positive results, so you should try it every now and again.
Hey gang, check it out, another debut song for all ya’ll! It’s from los Kung-Fu Monkeys and their new album is due out next week and it kicks off with this same song! “Taking it Easy” indeed! But that’s not where the great music stops, no! There’s plenty more, so keep those computer speakers turned up, or those earbuds in your ears, because it’s another upbeat fun episode from 23 Minutes of Ska! (Remember kids if it’s not the 23min of Ska podcast, it’s either longer or shorter than 23 minutes and may or may not be ska.)
This is the most colorful episode of the podcast that I’ve ever done! Enough with the puns, on w/ the great music! I hope you all like ska and ska/punk, cuz that’s all your getting. Sorry this write up is short, but I’m on my way to Texas for a wedding, fun time!
There are certain facts in life. The sun always rises from the East, never drink OJ after brushing your teeth, and most of all, you always double down on eleven (not to mention, always split on eights). Most other advice in life isn’t worth the time it takes to comprehend the words others have spoken, but those 3 (4) hold fast. Don’t doubt them, and use these facts to go forth and conqueror the world. I also wanted to point out that there’s two songs in this episode that are making their world premier, the Pinstripes and the Dropsteppers have a new split 7″ coming out in the next few days, click on the album title for details where to get yr own copy!
I won’t lie, this episode was a bear to put together. A lot of the original song choices weren’t working together, the episode came out too short, switched out some songs, rearranged a few songs, the episode came out too long, switched a few more songs and BANG! the episode is done. In the years I’ve been doing this, this episode is the first one to give me a bit of podcaster/mixer block, I guess you would call it, it has sucked up far more of my evening free time than any other episode. The good thing is that all those songs that got kicked out have started to form the next couple episodes, so hopefully they’ll flow together easier and my episode description won’t seem so cranky because I won’t be so sleepy! I still say it is a fine fine episode of the show, but birthing this baby took far too much time!
I’m lucky that my headache subsided enough to get you this episode! Also I’m lucky that my computer, which is in ill health, was able to complete this episode! I’m lucky that I get to get another episode full of great ska music out to all of you too! So with out further explanation, here it is!

Hey, anyone gonna be in San Diego this weekend for Comic Con? Hit me up, firstname.lastname@example.org! I’ll be there… kinda got comics on the brain right now if you can’t tell by listening to this episode.
Oh my gosh, I’ve just noticed what I’ve been missing lately on this podcast! Ska-Punk! So you better believe that I weaved a some of that into this episode. Not that I dropped any more traditional stuff, it’s just all in a nicer, more balanced blend this time.
Back with more straight outta the 90s! If you don’t know some of these bands, well, I feel sorry for you, because these are bands that would TEAR DOWN THE HOUSE LIVE! Ok, I haven’t seen all of these bands live, but the ones I have, I can vouch for. Secret Society rocked the back room of the Peoria Pizza Works, Stretch Armstrong stole the show from Mustard Plug and Hepcat, doctormanette snapped me out a mid show stupor in at a Rockford skate park and then made the entire crowd at the Metro in Chicago forget that they were there to see the Aquabats, and seeing Unsteady at the Knitting Factory is flat out one of my personal life high-lights. The Scofflaws are a true classic in the ska scene, so check them out right away. Also hit up Punch the Clown who was always a ska compilation ringer, and when you get an album of theirs and hear how great all the songs are it is even more clear how great they were. Speaking of ska compilations, Insatiable and this song was the shining star on the “Ska: the 3rd Wave Vol. II” that just about everyone I knew had a copy of growing up. It was a decent comp, but that song was just killer! It’s a excellent way to get us to the midway point of side B.
This is part three of a 90min ska mix tape from the nineties running each Thursday throughout May.
If you’re in a ska band and would like to be interviewed or have a song featured, please email me at radjose[at]gmail[dot]com.

In celebration of my recent wedding I cooked up this podcast. Is it a little mushy? Sure, but man, that’s what makes weddings a fun time. OK, maybe I’m getting a little personal with this episode, but heck, can you blame me? Get up, dance, drink a beverage, eat some cake and pretend you were there.
