So for the first time in a long time I was up so late perfecting this episode. I thought I’d had the music part done several times. One time I even saved it for publishing. Thing is, it didn’t feel right, the next few drafts didn’t feel right either. It took time, but “Hectic Planet” is one of my favorite and well missed comics of all time. Trying to capture what I like about the book using the music I dig most highly, and trying to promote a load of current ska bands, it is something that needs perfecting and perfection. If you’ve never read “Hectic Planet” you owe it to yourself to dig up the 3 collections out there and enjoy. And if the art looks familiar, it should, “Hectic Planet” artist and writer Evan Dorkin did a host of ska compilation covers throughout the ’90s. He’s a staple of the scene and a staple of my life.

Hey all, this is Jr Ska Boss of Viva Ska Radio where every Wednesday my killer partner in crime Selecta Scream & I try to bring the best in Ska. Old and new and whatever else we can throw in to get your toes tapping. It’s a radio show out of Las Vegas, NV and you can check it out on www.dustdevilradio.com 7pm-10pm Pacific on Wednesday evening!
RJ sez: Jr Ska Boss sent me a killer line up for this episode, witched I goosed with tracks from the Dendrites and the Sheldons to send it over the top. It’s easy to do when I’m starting with quality picks. See, Jr Ska Boss is not just a DJ over at Viva Ska Radio, and he just doesn’t DJ at shows between acts, no no no, he’s also a full-on show promoter! I got a chance to meet him at a show he DJ’d a few months ago, and we got on great. I complimented his choices throughout the night and it was some fun conversation, then I was like “Oh, I do a ska podcast” and when I told him the show he seemed super stoked. It was a great moment, and from our latest texts he’s expressed that he’s honored to contribute to the episode, and well, I have to say, I’m honored that he took the time to collaborate with me.

It’s another episode where my helpful listeners have suggested the music for! I like this one quite a bit, lots of great songs on it. It’s been a rough week for me, so all of your help has been pretty much essential in helping to get this episode out. I literally cannot do this podcast without the bands, or all you helpful listeners, so I appreciate all who took the time to make suggestions these last few weeks to help another top-notch episode get out to all your lovable rude little ears.

What I loved about ska shows back in the mid-’90s was that you really didn’t know what you were going to get. A more traditional ska band, a ska/punk band that was more punk than ska, a 2 Tone revival sounding band, a ska/punk band that was more ska than punk, a band with 4 members, a band with 10 members, a band full of high schoolers or a band full of actual adults! It really was all over the map like that, and the thing that brought those bands to our towns and the crowds to the venues was the ska that was at the center, in some way, of it all. This episode represents that love of all things ska that I had as a young man encountering shows not knowing exactly what I was going to see, but at the same time knowing that I was going to dig it!
