23min of Ska : May Mix Tape : the ’70s : Side A (part 2)

MayMixTape70-SideAPart2Back again with another round of 1970s ska, or rather, ska and rocksteady! It’s part two of a 90min mix tape w/ a focus on the ’70s. Now let it be known that this isn’t a “best of the ’70s” kind of thing, just a bunch of great songs from that decade that have never been played on an episode of 23min of Ska before. I hope everyone else out there is enjoying this little history lesson as much as I do. It isn’t often that I have to do this much research, but I think everything is turning out awesome!

Special : In the Sixties… Vol. 3

23Ska60sOnce again I go back into the vault, or rather the internet trying to once again learn more about the origins of the music I love so much and when I come across a particular outstanding gem I save for a podcast like this. Oh yeah, 60s Ska from some the true originators. If you can’t get down to some of these songs, well, I don’t know what is wrong with your feet, sir or ma’am, because I know that I’m straight up dancing or tappin’ my feet with out abandon.

Keith & Ken – I Won’t Let You Go (Jamaican Jerk ’66)
Hopeton Lewis – Cool Collie (007 / Cool Collie / Judge Dread in Court ’67)
Pat Kelley – If it Don’t Work Out (If it Don’t Work Out / I am Coming Home ’69)
Prince Buster – Faith (Faith / 707 ’63)
Alton Ellis – Willow Tree (Dance Crasher / Willow Tree ’65)
Ken Boothe – Can’t You See (Can’t You See / I Remember Someone ’68)
the Tartans – Dance All Night (Dance All Night / What Can I Do ’67)
the Blues Busters – Soon You Will be Gone (Jamaica Ska ’64)
