23min of Ska : the Age of Apocalypse

23skaAGEOFAPOCALYPSEFinally bringing a lost episode in to official continuity. I mean this kind of thing was expected, right? With comics being a theme for this set it very well should’ve been expected I pull something like this! It was all about finding the perfect placement for it. It’s been reworked from the ground up, balanced better, different track order, but yeah, this episode was available Dec 20th, 2012, just in time for the end of the world, should it’ve come to that. It wasn’t a normal release day for the show back then, so it had no number, no real place in the 23 episode sets, and I couldn’t place it any place else. It was originally going to re-run near the end of the last set, but it didn’t seem right. Now, now it feels right!

00:00 – Mephiskapheles – Doomsday (God Bless Satan ’94)

09:26 – Inspecter 7 – Purgatory (Banished to Bogeyland ’99)
12:26 – the Bohunks – Animal Times (In the Waiting Room ’11)
15:33 – the Insteps – the Final Call (Eleven Steps to Power ’96)
21:51 – Dan P. – Riot (Eat the Planet ’07)

23min of Ska : Wrath

23skaWRAITHWhen I started out putting this episode together I didn’t intend to start it off w/ some mid ’90s ska, it just worked out that way. Don’t be mad about it, sometimes I go looking for great modern ska, but sometimes I get reminded of a bunch of great music from when I was younger. So yeah, I dipped back into it, and pulled these awesome tracks to share w/ you. The rest of these songs will join those mid ’90s tracks in the fact that they’ve really gotten stuck in my mind since I’ve heard them. In fact, I had to triple check that I hadn’t used any of them before. Hopefully you’ll enjoy them all as much as I have.

00:00 – Regatta 69 – I Wanna Smack You (Prime Time ’97)
02:50 – Mephiskapheles – Attack of the Geniuses (Maximum Perversion ’97)

Rerun : Infinate

Woo! A flashback to the first episode that I did that got a lot of good comments on! It celebrates a lot of great bands! Orangetree was a great band from St. Louis, I saw them play several times, the lead singer Jason used to be in MU330, and was also known to jump all over audience members, which somehow always seemed to be me, it was hilarious. Other than them, this is chock full of well known bands, Madness is a total classic, Goldfinger is still kicking around w/o doing the ska-punk thing any more. The Impossibles and Dance Hall Crashers each left a legacy of fun albums in their wake and Mephiskapheles just plain cracked me up. Yup, other than Madness, this is a pretty good overview of ’90s ska, next episode I should stretch myself a bit more.

Madness – One Step Beyond (One Step Beyond ’79)
Orangetree – Pretzels (Fixing Stupid ’99)
Goldfinger – Carlita (Hang Ups ’97)
the Impossibles – Plan B (Back 4 the Attack ’98)
Dance Hall Crashers – He Wants Me Back (the Old Record ’91)
Stubborn Allstars – Tin Spam (Open Season ’95)
Mephiskapheles – Saba (God Bless Satan ’94)

23min of Ska : Infinite

Woo! The infiniteness of ska! Spanning several decades! And yet, save the opening song, this is the most ’90s centric episode I’ve shared. Orangetree was a great band from St. Louis, I saw them play several times, the lead singer Jason used to be in MU330, and was also known to jump all over audience members, which somehow always seemed to be me, it was hilarious. Other than them, this is chock full of well known bands, Madness is a total classic, Goldfinger is still kicking around w/o doing the ska-punk thing much any more. The Impossibles and Dance Hall Crashers each left a legacy of fun albums in their wake and Mephiskapheles just plain cracked me up. Yup, other than Madness, this is a pretty good overview of ’90s ska, next episode I should stretch myself a bit more.
