23min of Ska : dONE

23skaONEHere it is, what was at one time supposed to be the final episode of 23min of Ska. In fact it is a reverse order of the bands played in the very first episode, different songs of course. It’s been a long road to get here, and I’ve had a ton of fun along the way. I still think this would’ve been a perfect ending, seriously, I’ve literally been sitting on this episode for years. Heck, even the last few episodes were mostly worked out 3 years ago. I’d always planned on ending this show one day. Podcasts don’t end, they just stop updating, and I thought 23min of Ska deserved to go out with a proper ending. But more than going out in style, the listeners have shown me that instead, 23min of Ska deserves life! One day we’ll come to a true ending, but this, this is just a check point, a weigh station on the journey of this silly little podcast. Thanks for having me, see you next week.

23min of Ska : Hey, High Fives All Around!

23ska roofFive! The countdown is real… in case you haven’t noticed for the last eighteen episodes the titles have been counting down… but to what? Truth be told, it might be counting down to the end. The end of the podcast proper? When I started the countdown, yes, this is exactly what it was leading to. But I’m having second thoughts. Months ago when this countdown started it was when I was getting hardly any downloads, listens, shares, likes, what-have-you and zero feedback. It was depressing. Ska isn’t supposed to depress people. Then the month of January hit… and it has been crazy! Huge download numbers, a number of new listeners and several supportive comments… I’m kind of shocked. It makes me want to keep going. So what are we counting down to? Listeners, tell me what you want from this podcast, we’ll go from there! This show is nothing with out you and the bands, I’m just a middle man, hit me up, let me know! Maybe we’re just counting down to an even better version of 23min of Ska!

23min of Ska : 19th Hole

23skaGOLFWhy in the hell would I make an episode with such a tenuous link to a theme? As always, because I thought it would be funny. So I start going through my head, computer and CD collection looking for key words, and I kept finding great songs! These were songs that I hadn’t played on the show before! So, yeah, golf is kinda dumb, and I don’t even play, but a golf themed episode made me laugh and there was too many great songs popping up that I had to do it. If there was a patron saint of golfing I’d say they influenced me or something… wait… there is? And it’s St. Andrew… and I didn’t even play a single Scottish ska band on this episode? Er… damn, I wish I hadn’t looked that up right before I started typing this text! Anyway, water traps and sand pits ahoy, it’s damn time to take a few shots off of your game before getting out of the sun to retire to the bar in the country club for a few beers. Right? Nah, still boring.

Special : You Call It Vol. 6

23skaBEERSOnce again I reached out to my listeners on facebook and to those rude kids over on /r/ska and asked them what was the song that got you hooked on ska. Not so much the first song that you heard, but the one that made you think “man, this song is awesome, I love this, I need more of stuff this!” I’ll be the first to admit, this is all very ’90s centric, but it is when a lot of folks first heard of ska for the first time, so that kind of makes a bit of sense. I hope you all enjoy some music that other people picked out, and mixed by me, hell, I’d say that I’m on vacation!
