It’s been a rough few weeks, rougher than most. More than anything I’ve needed my family, friends, and friends that are family to get me through. Also helping me through it all is music, here’s some songs that are great and kept me going lately. I hope all is going great for you and yours.

I came of age in the ’90s, which means, yeah, I read a fair amount of manga. One of my favorites was always Adam Warren’s take on “the Dirty Pair” a sci-fi book that was ages ahead of the curve by decades in ideas, tech, and even the rise of horrible fan-types. It’s about 2 young government workers who are sent to help citizens, but are a bit accident prone so wherever they show up hijinks ensue. Self assured women whose work entertains? Seems like a good theme for a ska podcast…

Deeply honored to have my pal RJ ask me to do this, and it was an interesting exercise. I appreciate his support and the work he is doing with the podcast and bringing the ska to the people. I took some of my favorite bands as a jumping-off point and the theme materialized out of that. Hope you enjoy it, and if you want to learn to play The Selecter’s Carry Go Bring Come on the Ukulele look for it in an upcoming episode of The Two Tone Singalong.
RJ sez: Denver Dave is the man! He’s been showing his enthusiasm for ska via his projects like “This is Ska” and the “Two Town Uke Sing Along” for oh so many years. I was lucky enough to meet him a few years back, and I’m even luckier to call him my friend. I couldn’t think of anyone better than to start off this 7 episode series, where I’m sitting shotgun, and someone else is taking the wheel, than with Denver Dave. Also, this is my 400th episode! Man, that’s a good one to have Denver help out with!

This episode starts off with a new song from a fairly new band, they’re called Catbite and I’ve played them once before. If you dig this song, go and pre-order their new album, because this song is on there, and if you’re anything like me, you’re going to want to spin this one over and over again. Also, this episode features a new song by the band Love Shuttle off their brand new 7″! Actually, follow all the links, get all the ska, ska/punk and rocksteady you can handle! Don’t just take my word for it.

Ah, back to normal, playing whatever the heck I want as long as it’s ska. I’m not concerned with keeping it traditional or ska/punk, I just care that it has that snappy ska beat to make you pick up your feet. And when your feet are sore, if you need to keep dancing, press on. If we all called it a day once things got difficult I wouldn’t have gotten this episode out tonight. I’m sleepy and my wrists are burning as I write this. But man, I love this collection of songs, I love that I stuck it out! Hell, I love all the songs that I tried to stick in this episode that didn’t work. I’ll get them into your ears soon, promise.

Woo hoo! It’s my birthday today (that is, if you’re listening to this on May 25th) and that mean, Imma gonna play whatever the hell I want. Sure, you may think I do that every week, and that’s mostly true, but I’m also looking to play stuff that I think you, my listeners, will enjoy. I go out looking for new and exciting bands to play for you. This week, nah, I just gathered up a load of great tracks that I want to listen to, if you don’t like it, eh, you got no taste. Sorry, buddy, but this stuff here is still the real deal, if you’re not down, scram. Ok… I may’ve started celebratory drinks a bit too early…
