Trust can take a long time to build up and can be destroyed very quickly. That’s kind of the theme that’s going on here. Hopefully I have your trust each week to take you on a fun little ska journey each week and introduce you to great bands from today and the past. I hope that you trust me enough to always be picking great bands from around the world that play the ska. And I trust that all of you are entertained.
Here’s a little something different to break up the monotony of your day. I hope that you dig this episode as much I did while getting it together. We all must remember that a break from the usual can be beneficial, heck, getting away from our regular routine can sometimes bring us the biggest joy in life. So, take a break, take a right instead of a left, order something different off the menu, it’s only once, and you just might enjoy it!
Here we are again at the start of a brand new year. Once again setting out to try and do better by ourselves. I resolve to keep making a weekly ska podcast, so I hope that that is OK with all of you. Is it? Kick ass, I knew it would be!
Basically I was foolish to even attempt to do an entire English free podcast. I tried, but Frau Doktor and King Changó just couldn’t help themselves. It’s not that all these groups are particularly foreign either. King Changó is as much from New York as Venezuela, the Kingpins are at least from the French part of Canada and, well, Greenhouse is just a bunch of guys from Naperville, IL that know how to sing in Korean. I’ll admit that intro is a bit of a tease, but it was too fun not to do and a well done cover to boot. Speaking of good covers, the Kingpins take on the new wave “L’Aventurier” is so fantastic it almost makes a case for ska covers. Putting together these songs introduced me to a bunch of bands that I hadn’t heard before, like the Riddim Cats and Firebug who I’d heard of but hadn’t really looked into much, and Frau Doktor whom I found out about specifically looking for a German band for this podcast and became amazed by.
If you’re in a ska band and would like to be featured or if you know some music that you think I should hear for future inclusion, please email me at radjose[at]gmail[dot]com!
