23min of Ska : Birthday

Woo hoo! It’s my birthday today (that is, if you’re listening to this on May 25th) and that mean, Imma gonna play whatever the hell I want. Sure, you may think I do that every week, and that’s mostly true, but I’m also looking to play stuff that I think you, my listeners, will enjoy. I go out looking for new and exciting bands to play for you. This week, nah, I just gathered up a load of great tracks that I want to listen to, if you don’t like it, eh, you got no taste. Sorry, buddy, but this stuff here is still the real deal, if you’re not down, scram. Ok… I may’ve started celebratory drinks a bit too early…

23min of Ska : Marble Frosted

This episode is a bit all over the place, so, in a sense, it’s the perfect 23min of Ska episode. We have ska from all around the world, some of it played a bit more traditional than not. Some bands take it in a jazzy direction, others in a punky direction. Does it still have that ska beat? You bet your ass it does! This is still 23min of Ska, not 23min of Whatever the Hell Kinda Music!

00:00 – Put3Ska – Manila Girl (Put3Ska ’94)
02:51 – Rude King – Save it for Never (Coming Back to You ’15)

23min of Ska : Utopia

23skaUTOPIAWe all have our favorite bands, the bands we grew up with, the bands we were friends with, the bands that had music there when we really needed it. They provide us a way back home in our head. Pretty nifty trick music is, isn’t it? This episode features bands that, to be honest, not sure I would’ve found if not doing this podcast. An arguement could be made for Rude King and the Dropsteppers, but I 100% wouldn’t’ve found these other bands had I not been looking for good music to play, and man, I’m so glad I did! They’re all so great! So enjoy this episode of some of my favorite bands I’ve found along the way.

00:00 – Rude King – Home Wrecker (Coming Back to You ’15)
04:19 – the Scotch Bonnetts – the Good One (Live Ya Life ’13)
08:13 – the Dropsteppers – Darker Side of Grey (Darker Side of Grey ’13)
11:06 – Show Me Island – Coming Home (Show Me Island ’13)
14:04 – After Hours – Almost Home (the Trouble with Those Guys Is… ’00)
19:02 – the Longshots – Close to Home (Borrowed Time ’14)

23min of Ska : Three Hard Winters

23skaNORSEThis episode is for my friends, and by that I mean, you guys, my listeners. Also, the bands in this podcast contain some people that range from good acquaintances to long distance friends (except for doctormanette, I don’t even know anyone in that band). So this, is possibly, the one of the friendliest episodes of the show that I have ever put out! Listen with your friends! Also, re: the title “Three Hard Winters,” it’s a reference to Fimbulvetr, the three harsh Winters (without a Summer) in Norse mythology that is the prelude to Ragnarök.

00:00 – Sammy Kay & the Easygroove Allstars – So Long (Easygrooves Vol. 1 ’13)
03:46 – Rude King – Lose Before I Start (It’ll Probably be Alright ’13)

23min of Ska : 8% Return

23ska8BALLFor the triumphant return to more modern ska, I went to my listeners and asked what they wanted. Got a few good suggestions, all which are in this podcast. Then, due to my online begging, King Duncan of the Shifters sends me on of their brand new songs. Basically, if you aren’t a close personal friend of the band, this is the first chance to hear it! Man it is a ripper! Also there’s a song from Rude King, that Jon Bravo made sure to get to me right away for you all to hear, that was just released last Saturday! Seriously, so much great new ska for you on this episode it is insane!

23min of Ska : the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus

23skaMAUSOLEUMCan you believe it? 5 years of 23min of Ska? That’s nuts! I had no idea that when I put the first episode together in January of 2010 that I’d ever have a handful of listeners or still being doing it even a few years later! I can honestly say that it blows my mind. To everyone out there that sends me songs to play (bands, labels, listeners) I say thanks, you help me find stuff that sounds great and helps make the show better! So I hope you all dig this episode, as well as all the episodes, and I’ll see you all here next year, yeah? And, as always, thanks for listening, and enjoy!

23min of Ska : Some Help to Pass the Time

23ska roofHere’s a selection of songs to help get you from one end of your day to the next. Actually, it can’t do that, it’s only 23min long, that’s far too short! But, I dunno, play it over and over again? Or pause it after a minute and wait and hour to hit play again for another minute. Something like that, right? All kidding aside, I hope you dig this! That’s a fresh new track from the Delirians, I’m really enjoying their debut full length! Also, check that Rude King track East Coast, cuz Rude King is gonna be all up in ya in a few weeks! You best get out to see them, their live show is certainly something to behold, and they are some of the friendliest folks I’ve ever met!

00:00 – the Delirians – Get Up (Get Up! ’14)
