23min of Ska : Coconut

Alright, let’s get down to it. It’s been a long week. We all need to celebrate the fact that we’ve just about wrapped up another one. Things can suck, oh they surely can! But we can’t let that stop us. All the craziness and horror going on around us, we have to push through it. We have to fight it. If dancing and ska music help you, then you’ve come to the right place.

23min of Ska : King in Yellow

23skatrenchcoatThis started out as an all covers episode, but that was earlier in the day. By the time the sun set I was in a much mellower mood, and let’s be real, most covers are very uptempo and very ska/punk-centric. So yeah, this one is a little laid back, and the laid back cover hung in there. A relaxing little treat after you’ve binged food all day. Well, that is, if you’re in the U.S. if not, you have a real problem, buddy!

23min of Ska : Utopia

23skaUTOPIAWe all have our favorite bands, the bands we grew up with, the bands we were friends with, the bands that had music there when we really needed it. They provide us a way back home in our head. Pretty nifty trick music is, isn’t it? This episode features bands that, to be honest, not sure I would’ve found if not doing this podcast. An arguement could be made for Rude King and the Dropsteppers, but I 100% wouldn’t’ve found these other bands had I not been looking for good music to play, and man, I’m so glad I did! They’re all so great! So enjoy this episode of some of my favorite bands I’ve found along the way.

00:00 – Rude King – Home Wrecker (Coming Back to You ’15)

23min of Ska : 18yrs Old Means You’re an Adult… Right?

23ska9BALLEveryone who’s 18 thinks they know what they’re talking about. I was no exception. Big talking idiot. Yeesh! I’m glad there’s not too many people that know the stories of my youth. Mostly being a loud mouthed idiot. Getting into minor trouble, and pissing off the people I should’ve been trying to impress, and trying to impress people who weren’t worth my time. We’ve all been there, right? And hell, if you’re still there, and still young, don’t take any advice from me to start cleaning up your act, because I know I sure wouldn’t’ve taken it. Go, be you. Me, I’ll sit here laughing at my younger self’s ways, while thanking him for at least helping shape the man I am today.

23min of Ska : the Shape of Things to Come

23ska-beerI’ve never been one of those people to say that music saved my life, let alone ska music. It didn’t, in the least. But music, especially ska music has enhanced my life in ways I can’t begin to count. It cheers me up when I’m down, it makes me dance when I’m already up, but most of all, it let me meet some of the raddest group of people I’ve ever known. From back in the day when I got into it, up to today, I just can’t believe the friends and acquaintances I’ve made through ska. It really shocks me sometimes. But yeah, ska didn’t save my life, but it might have made it worth living.
