23min of Ska : Vesper Lynd

23skaLYND

Alright Bond fans, I bet you’re all looking at that image for this episode and saying “Why are you calling this episode “Vesper Lynd?” That’s clearly a photo of Honey Rider!” And I’ll say “You’re not wrong… but in reality is a photo of Ursula Andress, who yes, played Honey in “Dr. No” but this is from when played Vesper in the original “Casino Royale,” so there!” Then we can debate if that should be counted as a true Bond movie or not. At any rate, here’s a bunch of fantastic ska music, so listen to that instead of debating me about spy movies, okay? You know these bands all rule, right? So get ta listenin’! Looks like I won this imaginary argument with the power of music. Rad.

23min of Ska : Phalanx Covenant

23skaPHALANXI almost didn’t do this episode. When I was originally going to do this series of episodes I was only going to loosely base the song selection on the title, not the contents of the story. Outside of the comic, this phrase means nothing. But since I’ve tried to hit key story points, or my favorite story moments with the songs, I knew I had to go for it. It turned out pretty damn good! Then again, with bands as great as these, it’s not hard to assemble a great mix of music!

23min of Ska : Lust

23skaLUSTYBy now you see what I’m doing with the episode titles right? If so, awesome, thought you would’ve caught on last week. If you still don’t get it, try paying attention in bible class next Sunday. Also, it was the last of the easy loose themes to follow. So, uh, don’t expect the next four episodes to be as on point as this one is, and it really isn’t too on point either. What it is though is a bunch of great ska music! And yeah, at the end you can see that I’m in my ’90s ska rut again, so what, those songs rule!

23min of Ska : the Shape of Things to Come

23ska-beerI’ve never been one of those people to say that music saved my life, let alone ska music. It didn’t, in the least. But music, especially ska music has enhanced my life in ways I can’t begin to count. It cheers me up when I’m down, it makes me dance when I’m already up, but most of all, it let me meet some of the raddest group of people I’ve ever known. From back in the day when I got into it, up to today, I just can’t believe the friends and acquaintances I’ve made through ska. It really shocks me sometimes. But yeah, ska didn’t save my life, but it might have made it worth living.
