23min of Ska : Mix Tape : the ’10s Side A (part 2)

Woohoo, here we go with part two! So many of these bands are ones that I miss all the time. It’s a bit more punky than the last one was, but that’s what we all love about ska, right? It’s multifaceted! I know for a fact that a number of the bands on this episode are not officially broken up but on hiatus, and hey, the Bosstones were on hiatus for 8 years and that wasn’t code for “broken up” so I shan’t push that narrative here! All I know is that I want more from every single one of them! And if there is… tell me, because I want to hear it and it’s obvious that I have managed to miss it!

23min of Ska : Stars Disappear, One by One

23ska-yellowplaidTime runs out for the best of us. The most we can do is get out into the world and enjoy it! Some of the bands in this episode are long gone, other have held on for a crazy amount of time! Go see the latter as soon as you can before they become the former. Seriously, everyone, stop complaining about the world and get out in it, it is rewarding, and think of all the stories you can tell later on in life. No one looks back in life and wishes they would’ve done less.

23min of Ska : It Could be Great

23ska roofSince I last left you I spent a week on vacation. Not just on vacation, but sick. Yes, I was sick on vacation. It sucked. I’m supposed to be relaxing, getting some sun and hanging out on the beaches or something. Instead I’m stuck inside. Boo! On the upside I got a bit more time to jam out to a bunch of forgotten and new songs on my ipod, which resulted in this exact episode. Good stuff that all should’ve been used in a episode before now. So enjoy this, I know that I did while I was coughing up a lung in a darkened hotel room.

the Valuables

23min of Ska : Prepackaged Revolutionary Soundtrack

Coming at you with a new episode. I like these songs. I don’t have much to say other than how much I dig these songs! The first two bands (the Dropsteppers & the Pinstripes) are from the Midwest, where I once called home and they really bring the ska style back to its roots. Then we have the Backyard Superheroes w/ a song off of their yet to be released EP! The Snails have been putting out constantly great music for a while now and it is about time I have one of their songs on the podcast. Likewise, Small Town Get Up have been throwing it down for a time up in Canada and really need to be heard! Sonic Boom Six, if someone described their style and what they do with the ska beat I think I would say “pass!” and that would’ve been a mistake. So if you haven’t heard them I’m not going to try and prep you to them, just enjoy it. Finally we end w/ a classic track from the Insteps. So there you have it, a well rounded, new to older 3rd wave goodness w/ everything in between.

the Dropsteppers – Center City (Get Up In It! ’11)
the Pinstripes – Might be Her Fool (I ’12)
Backyard Superheroes – Show Me Your Moves (Falling with Style ’12)
the Snails – One Way Ticket (From Kingston to Memphis ’11)
Small Town Get Up – Vintage (Mayhem Circus ’11)
Sonic Boom Six – Sound of a Revolution (Arcade Perfect ’07)
the Insteps – the Sufferer (Eleven Steps to Power ’96)

23min of Ska : How Pieces Move

Step up to play! Life is a game, so have fun before the board gets folded up and put away. Somedays I can get so pretentious about life and music, but I just need to step back and remember how everything is supposed to be. Don’t get so hung up on things, remember life is what you make of it, don’t get hung up on things, play the game.

the Moon Invaders – Pick Up the Pieces (the Fine Line ’11)
Stop the Presses – Sweatheart (Does it Still Look Pretty ’11)
the Dropsteppers – When the Band Plays (Get Up In It ’11)
Sonic Boom Six – Play On (Play On: Arcade Perfected & Rare and Rejected ’08)
Chris Murray – Pieces (Pieces ’11)
the Boss Beats – Cogs (the Boss Beats II ’11)
Victor’s Lament – Prelude (To a Life Well Lived) (Ghosts & Gamblers ’10)
Small Town Get Up – Bigger than Buddha (Bigger than Buddha ’12)
