I’ve been reading Mike Allred comics pretty much since I got into comics. He’s a guy that makes me still love superhero comics, while bringing his indie idealism into the fold. Kinda like a lot of these bands. Kill Lincoln and Bite Me Bambi are taking that ska/punk sound and totally elevating it! And there’s also great tracks from Shandon, King Kong 4, the Skajects, and Smoke Like a Fish rounding out this episode like Laura Allred’s colors round out Mike’s line work! And that Rude Boy George track? It can’t be a tribute to the Allreds and “Madman” with out a bit of Bowie! (Also, that songs from the upcoming charity album “Block Buster : a Tribute to Glam Rock” Go pre-order it!)

Oh, uh, hey look, it’s an episode, on Valentine’s Day! Okay, yeah, it isn’t really all to Valentine Day-y, but with all the computer problems the show has been suffering, well, this episode almost didn’t even get done! I know! I’m shocked I got it out if I’m being completely honest! I hope you enjoy it and I hope to be casting to you next week as well!

Did you ever hear about the theory that when the sunspots on the Sun go nuts every 11 years that it has an effect on human culture? At one end of the cycle we, as a society are more manic, and at the other end we’re more mellow? And that at the zenith point of each there is an increase in creative activity that reflects the zeitgeist? It’s a fun theory, as far as theories go. Something to think about. Now enjoy a bunch of songs about the Sun.
Bang, this episode gets off with a real start! Hey, it’s a brand new song from the Backyard Superheroes off their brand new EP! It really kicks off this episode thematically too! That’s right, all these songs have a thing or two in common. It’s cool, you don’t have to guess, all the songs feature drinking in some form. Not saying it is good, not always even the focus of the song in question, but drinks, they will be had! And hell, why not, in America it is a holiday weekend, so pop corks and twist the caps, and have a great time!
If you’re ever stuck in life, just go, escape, especially if you’re mentally trapped. Life is too damn short to feel boxed in anywhere! You’d be surprised how simple it is to leave things that suck behind once you commit to ridding yourself of them. The first step in the hardest, it feels like trying to escape a black hole, but you can do it, and it gets easier once you start. Now, you won’t always get off scot-free, there is always a bit of pain, but in the end you’ll be all the better for it.
When I started out putting this episode together I didn’t intend to start it off w/ some mid ’90s ska, it just worked out that way. Don’t be mad about it, sometimes I go looking for great modern ska, but sometimes I get reminded of a bunch of great music from when I was younger. So yeah, I dipped back into it, and pulled these awesome tracks to share w/ you. The rest of these songs will join those mid ’90s tracks in the fact that they’ve really gotten stuck in my mind since I’ve heard them. In fact, I had to triple check that I hadn’t used any of them before. Hopefully you’ll enjoy them all as much as I have.
