Cards out on the table, Grover is a boss record label! Founded in 1993 by Oswald Münnig, and distributing out of Germany they are as well known for issuing some rad albums but also licensing a lot of great ones too! They’ll help bands from outside Germany and Europe get releases over there, they’ll also issue albums on vinyl when a band’s main label only plans on a CD release. I chose to focus on releases from the main Grover label and releases that were only on Grover or Grover released first, because they co-released and rereleased a lot of great stuff! It’s an embarrassment of fantastic music! Needless to say, Grover has been hooking us all up with great music over and over!

When I started putting this episode together, I was pretty mellow, I was digging what I was assembling, but I thought it needed some bite. The next day I sat down to “improve” it and I was already angry. I was wasn’t having any of the mellowness of the day before. As I picked and tossed new songs I started finding my way back to a more laid back state. This episode isn’t going after you, but it also isn’t a going to lay down, it shall be heard and you shall dance to it!

Yo, listen up, after last weeks over stuff and frantic episode, I thought we could take it a little easier this week. Geez, I hope you agree, I certainly think it’s another awesome episode! Listen up and enjoy yourself out there, it’s later than you think!
Woo! Look at that! Another new episode! As I was putting this together, wanting to go a little old school, I found the new albums from Son of Dad and Smerin’s Anti-Social Club and just had to include some songs from them and it just changed the whole direction of the podcast. There’s a lot of instrumentals on this episode, which also wasn’t intended when building it! I hope that you all enjoy this episode as much as I enjoyed finding some of these bands and songs and putting them together!
I thought it would be awesome to talk to my wife about what ska songs she likes and has memories from, as she is not really a ska fan. After living with me for about 6 years, she’s learned a lot. We used to do a weekly podcast together about reality shows called “I’m Not Here to Make Friends” that ran for over 3 years. I miss doing it, so I convinced Allison to through on her podcasting hat again and talk about ska. Near the end of the interview she ever turns the tables on me and starter to interview me! Oh, that wife!
Songs in this episode include:
the Toasters – Weekend in L.A. (Don’t Let the Bastards Grind You Down ’97)
Dan Potthast – I’ve Set Sail (Eyeballs ’99)
Reel Big Fish – Beer (Turn the Radio Off ’96)
All background music by the Caroloregians from their albums “Funkify Your Raggay” and “Fat is Back”.
If you say you don’t like candy, I’ll tell you that you’re a liar. I don’t like any food more than candy. I’m in my thirties and I still go crazy for sweets and stuff. Nothings better than a huge Mr. Goodbar and a tall glass or Tang. So yeah, that’s what inspired this latest episode, candy, sweets, sugar, stuff like that. Man, oh man, do I like candy.
