What I loved about ska shows back in the mid-’90s was that you really didn’t know what you were going to get. A more traditional ska band, a ska/punk band that was more punk than ska, a 2 Tone revival sounding band, a ska/punk band that was more ska than punk, a band with 4 members, a band with 10 members, a band full of high schoolers or a band full of actual adults! It really was all over the map like that, and the thing that brought those bands to our towns and the crowds to the venues was the ska that was at the center, in some way, of it all. This episode represents that love of all things ska that I had as a young man encountering shows not knowing exactly what I was going to see, but at the same time knowing that I was going to dig it!
Once again I’m just dropping a ton of new ska (with some well picked older song) on you! Hope that’s ok! More than that, I hope that your Summer is going well and that you’re all doing OK. It’s been a hectic one over here, getting the new house set up, oh man! But it’ll be great in a bit. Trust me when I say, when things are hectic take a small break where you can, and only for as long as it needs to be, then push on through, the reward will be awesome and you didn’t burn yourself out either. Double bonus!
Life is short. Don’t spend it making yourself miserable. Or by making other miserable. Do what you want, but harm none. You know. We only get one shot, are you going to give yours away? Or impede on others? What’s the point? Fulfilling your own greed only makes you think your happy for so long. Try kindness. Try making things for the world. When your time is up in this life, it will be remembered, and you will essentially live beyond your short time alive.

This episode is a bit all over the place, so, in a sense, it’s the perfect 23min of Ska episode. We have ska from all around the world, some of it played a bit more traditional than not. Some bands take it in a jazzy direction, others in a punky direction. Does it still have that ska beat? You bet your ass it does! This is still 23min of Ska, not 23min of Whatever the Hell Kinda Music!
Hey everyone one! What’s up? I’ve just finished the first of a three-night Slackers concert. I’m tired as heck, but man, still so excited for tonight and tomorrow! This is a laid back episode highlighting not only the Slackers, but the other bands that will be playing (or most likely will be in attendance at least) with them for their stand up at the Troubadour. Not sure how I’m supposed to make it through work on Friday, and my wife already has plans to let me sleep in in Saturday, because she knows that 3 days of work and ska is going to wipe me the heck out. Sorry, I don’t usually like to brag, but I’m super excited about these shows!
I’m gonna come clean on this one… it’s late, I’m tired, and I love this episode. OK, maybe it is sleep deprivation, but damn these are some fine fine ska tunes! I feel like I have so much more to say but, for real, sleep beckons. Luckily, I have this pick me up waiting for me, and all the rest of you rad listeners, to help get me started in the morning!
