Sometimes we all need a fresh start in life, if you do, take it! As long as you getting out there and getting a new outlook, try to be slow to anger and avoid the snark of life. Renew. Refresh. Get ready to kick some ass! This world is yours for the living, so live it up! Keep going strong, and when you need a break take one. When you need a new start, head out in that direction with purpose! No half assing allowed from now on! Be in it to win it! What do you win? A life well lived, because trophies are bull shit. The only reward you get is peace of mind and a smile on your face, isn’t that enough?
Here we go once more with an episode that has songs mostly picked out by listeners of this fine fine podcast. Once again, I’d like to thank my sisters, brothers and others over at /r/ska for being game and filling my head with songs and ideas and my inbox with sweet sweet ska!
Being and young and rebellious comes more naturally to some than it does to others. I personally became more rebellious as I got older, but longed to be more of a character like Klarion that goes against the wishes of his family and town to seek out what is beyond the society he grew up in. As serious as those ambitions are he isn’t afraid to be seen as weird as he laughs all the way to a new life. We can all make these sorts of changes in our lives, we just have to roll the dice…
Here’s a selection of songs to help get you from one end of your day to the next. Actually, it can’t do that, it’s only 23min long, that’s far too short! But, I dunno, play it over and over again? Or pause it after a minute and wait and hour to hit play again for another minute. Something like that, right? All kidding aside, I hope you dig this! That’s a fresh new track from the Delirians, I’m really enjoying their debut full length! Also, check that Rude King track East Coast, cuz Rude King is gonna be all up in ya in a few weeks! You best get out to see them, their live show is certainly something to behold, and they are some of the friendliest folks I’ve ever met!
When building yourself up, don’t forget to keep part of yourself to yourself. Your ego is only scaffolding that eventually needs to be removed so you can shine, but you can’t give everything away. We all need our secrets. We need that little part of us to keep inside our heads that makes us, well, ourselves. Remember that, remember your core, what defines you, it isn’t anything that external, and it is hard to explain, but don’t lose it. That being said… here’s a bunch of cover songs for you! Yay! And yeah, two Operation Ivy covers, so what, they’re both good, deal with it.
Summer is literally right around the corner! Woo! Let’s hear it for warm weather! Let’s hear it for ska music! Let’s hear some ska music, that’s why we’re here, right? Well then, let’s get started and dig right in to some great music. Great music plus Summer, it is the greatest match ever!
There aren’t too many traditions on 23min of Ska, in fact some are very secret, but this is a well known one, around this time of year I make an episode comprised on of music made this year. This isn’t a “best of” this isn’t a “you may’ve missed” it is just 23 minutes of ska music that was released in the year twenty twelve. If you’re saying that good ska isn’t being made anymore, then listen to this, you may just be wrong!
At the end of the day yesterday I was standing in line waiting for my car, that’s right, at 11:59 PM I was saying “Where the hell is my crappy car?” jokingly to a small crowd of ska fans. How did I know they were ska fans? Well, I’d just spend the last few hours dancing, drinking and singing along w/ this group of like minded individuals at the Summer of Ska tour. I can honestly say it was a great time! I haven’t been to a ska show on that level in a long time, and it didn’t disappoint! Thanks, Suburban Legends, Big D & the Kids Table and Reel Big Fish for putting on a hell of a show in Hollywood last night! This episode is dedicated to all the crazy awesome ska fans I met there last night! Like Matt, Ro, Edwardo, the kid who looked like Percy Jackson & his two friends and a big kudos to Brian Klemm, who remains the nicest guy in the world.
If you’re in a ska band and would like to be interviewed or have a song featured, please email me at radjose[at]gmail[dot]com.
