So very many 23min of Ska episodes are finalized and mixed in the wee hours of the night when I really should be asleep, this episode is no exception. I had a few ideas for this one, luckily it snapped together pretty quickly and awesomely. I always try to plan a few weeks ahead, makes a better podcast, or at least one that doesn’t keep me burning the midnight oil to produce. But this one, this one feels right that it kept me up so late. Exhausted, listening to music I love, to share it with the kind of folks that are awesome enough to listen… well it doesn’t get better than that! I’ll take a million sleepless nights to party with any one of you rascals! Ska is made for late night revelries. And maybe a bad decision or two.
I’ll be the first to admit that I don’t listen to enough ska from around the world. I’m mostly fixated on Southern California and the American Midwest. I’ve gotten a bit better at finding bands from Canada and the UK, but I still feel as if I need more of a worldly view. So, in that fashion I went out and dedicated a full episode to Australian ska music. In the end, good music is good music no matter where you come from, but a small highlight like this is worth it every now and again.
I don’t really get caught up in Olympic fever, sports aren’t really my thing. Saying that, I’ve always thought that the idea of the entire world converging in one spot was pretty damn cool. Even if it was sport related. So, in the spirit of gathering things from around the world, I have an awesome, highly international (because that’s the point) episode for you today. This podcast features bands from Greece, Australia, Korea, the USA, France, Japan, Sweden and Germany respectively. Enjoy it, I know I did discovering these bands and putting this together.
If you’re in a ska band and would like to be interviewed or have a song featured, please email me at radjose[at]gmail[dot]com.
