23min of Ska : How Many Candles You Burning?

23skaTRUCKERcandlesburningIt’s my birthday early next week, so I thought I’d dig around in my records crate and pull out some tracks for an all vinyl episode of 23min of ska. Some of these tracks were later put out digitally, but I don’t have them. So yeah, there’s some clicks and pops and other random record sounds, this is mainly because I do only a small clean up of the music after the transfer. This is because I dig those little imperfections that come with vinyl and I don’t really want to remove that from the final product.

23min of Ska : the Stubborn Records Special!

23skaSTUBBORN

I wish I could say that this episode is a trip down memory lane, that I’m just playing you all the cool shit I was into back in the late ’90s, specifically the stuff from Stubborn Records… but alas, I ain’t that cool. I don’t know how Stubborn was such a blind spot to me for so long, but they were, and I really didn’t start exploring their catalog until the mid-’00s. And man or man there was a wealth of fantastic stuff to find and listen to! Bless King Django for bringing us this label and allowing it to get all of us some very fine fine music to listen to!

00:00 – Skinnerbox – I Got to Know (Hepcat Season / I Got to Know ’98)
02:43 – Rocker-T and the Version City Rockers – I Have to Say (Nicer by the Hour ’98)

23min of Ska : Tutti Frutti

23skaTUTTII hope this podcast finds you well. I hope this podcast finds you at all. It’s a busy time, and hard not to get all caught up in it.
Things seem hectic but brush that stress aside. Don’t get caught up trying to be perfect and experience things in a perfect way. That’s undue stress that you’re better off without. The pressure from now until the end of the year can get rough, so take some time out away from your crazy aunt and drunken uncle and listen to some ska. Relax, you deserve it!

23min of Ska : Glazed

Words, words, words. Words arranged into a sentence. Words trying to convey an idea. Shallow statement of support. Trite catchphrase showing solidarity. Buzzword. Mention of genre. New slang to show you’re hip to the kids. Self-deprecating joke. Sincere message of thanks to listeners for their time. Another joke. Words expressing the hope that the listener likes this episode.

23skaMESSIAHChange is inevitable, we all have to accept this and move forward. Sometimes the future can surprise you, but you’ll never know if you sit back and keep pining for the past. Besides the future is where we’re going to be spending the rest of our lives, so we might as well look forward to all the changers it may bring! Get it? Goforward. Move ahead. Try to detect it. It’s not too late.

23min of Ska : Mr. Miracle

23skaMIRACLEIf you’re ever stuck in life, just go, escape, especially if you’re mentally trapped. Life is too damn short to feel boxed in anywhere! You’d be surprised how simple it is to leave things that suck behind once you commit to ridding yourself of them. The first step in the hardest, it feels like trying to escape a black hole, but you can do it, and it gets easier once you start. Now, you won’t always get off scot-free, there is always a bit of pain, but in the end you’ll be all the better for it.
