23min of Ska : Dark Chocolate

23skamilkchocolateI don’t know what to say here… here’s some ska. I really hope you dig it. I seriously love every song on this episode, even the one in a language I don’t fully understand, but that’s the thing about ska, right? It’s bringing us together. The love of music, the love of a good time, that’s ska. No matter the language, no matter the country, no matter the decade, it’s that ska beat that brings us joy. I hope this episode brings you joy too.

23min of Ska : the 7 Chakras

23skaCHAKRAWhat do I know about chakras? Not too much, I’m really hoping a whitey like me isn’t offending any Indians whose religious practice includes the chakras. Come to think of it, I didn’t worry about offending Christians when I did theme episodes on the Deadly Sins… well, retroactively, I hope I didn’t upset any Christians. At most the chakras were a spring board to present 7 songs or artists that in some way relate to what each chakra represents. It isn’t perfect, but it was fun to try and figure out, and hell, all of this music is worth hearing anyway, so stop reading and get listening!

23min of Ska : the Shape of Things to Come

23ska-beerI’ve never been one of those people to say that music saved my life, let alone ska music. It didn’t, in the least. But music, especially ska music has enhanced my life in ways I can’t begin to count. It cheers me up when I’m down, it makes me dance when I’m already up, but most of all, it let me meet some of the raddest group of people I’ve ever known. From back in the day when I got into it, up to today, I just can’t believe the friends and acquaintances I’ve made through ska. It really shocks me sometimes. But yeah, ska didn’t save my life, but it might have made it worth living.

23min of Ska : Long Live the Spring

23ska roofAw yeah, Spring time is fast approaching, and Spring time is the perfect time for some ska music! At least I always thought so. This if for you, you who enjoy Spring, drive w/ the windows open, take a hike, or lounge in your backyard to crank up some ska!

Additional note: Since the new year each band has only had one play on 23min of Ska. It was both harder and easier than I thought it would be. I really wanted to bring more variety to the show this year and I think I may be pulling that off! I think this little experiment was a success w/ exposing myself and all you listeners to a lot more great ska!
