23min of Ska : Boston Cream

To tell the truth, I really never thought about doing an episode focused in on a single city before. And while I’m sure Boston isn’t the only city in the world that could produce such a solid episode, it’s the first one that came to my mind. Heck, I got the idea a few weeks ago and then did nothing but basically research which Big D and Bosstones songs I’d played before (to make sure I didn’t repeat any) until I sat down this afternoon, and it came so easy. Boston, thanks for being such a good town for ska music! (Also, the number of times I typed Bosstone when I meant to type Boston is far too high!)

00:00 – Big D & the Kids Table – Steady Riot (Strictly Rude ’07)
02:33 – Pressure Cooker – Don’t Mind Waiting (Wherever You Go ’12)

13:57 – Bim Skala Bim – Everybody’s got Their Style (Chet’s Last Call ’13)
16:55 – the Allstonians – Fear & Loathing in Allston (Bottoms Up! ’03)
19:29 – the Mighty Mighty Bosstones – They Came to Boston (More Noise & Other Disturbances ’91)

23min of Ska : May Mix Tape : the ’00s : Side A (part two)

00mixTapeA2And here we are again, still stuck in ’00s, hearing the bright sparks of ska bands that refused to throw in the towel, just because mainstream taste-makers did. I won’t lie to you, during much of the early ’00s, I didn’t abandon ska music, but I got much more insular and into the bands in the Midwest at the time before moving out to LA half way through that decade and trying to catch up w/ the ska that was going on in the world at the time. I feel as if I am still playing catch up, but I loved my local ska bands so much I wanted to give them all the support I could, sorry world ska scene, I’m learning and making up for it now! And this concludes side A of the 90min ’00s mix tape.

Infamous Jake & the Pinstripe Mafia – Standing Proud (This is the Beginning of the End ’03)
the Hijacks – Victim! Ain’t No Alternative (Free Your Mind ’07)
7 Seconds of Love – Looking for My Leopard (Danger is Dangerous ’08)
the Pinstripes – Find It! (the Decay ’07)
Synthetic Elements – Take Me Home (Synthetic Elements ’05)
Westbound Train – Fatty Boom Boom! (Transitions ’06)
Sonic Boom Six – For 12 Weeks, the City is Theirs (Arcade Perfect ’07)

23min of Ska : Night on the Town

23ska-bwplaidWoo! Look at that! Another new episode! As I was putting this together, wanting to go a little old school, I found the new albums from Son of Dad and Smerin’s Anti-Social Club and just had to include some songs from them and it just changed the whole direction of the podcast. There’s a lot of instrumentals on this episode, which also wasn’t intended when building it! I hope that you all enjoy this episode as much as I enjoyed finding some of these bands and songs and putting them together!

the Loose Ties – Let’s Go Out Drinking (Champ of the Week ’12)
the Caroloregians – Keep On Upsettin’ (Funkify Your Reggay ’10)
Son of Dad – Thames the Breaks (the Best Life ’13)
Smerin’s Anti-Social Club – Persian Perversion (Primordial Cordials ’13)
the Toasters – I Wasn’t Going to Call You Anyway (Hard Band for Dead ’96)
Westbound Train – Soul Revival (Transitions ’06)
Tommy Tornado feat. Mr. T-Bone – Rock Road (Cool Down ’12)
