You Call It Vol. 22

I asked my listener base for what they thought was the best song they heard in 2021. It didn’t need to have come out in 2021, but that was the year they heard the song. I got a TON of great songs to pick from, so here it is! If it’s a good episode, then I picked the best from what was suggested, and if it isn’t, I blame all the people that told me what to play… just kidding, I love you all!

23min of Ska : No Evil Shall Escape My Sight

About a year and a half ago I had some surgery which ended up putting me on some pretty heavy painkillers for a few days. During this time, going in and out of sleep I started reading Geoff Johns’ “Green Lantern” run. It would only be a few pages here and there in and out of my head, but it oddly helped and finally got me to be down with Hal Jordan. Hey, I was a teen in the ’90s, Kyle has always been my boy. All in all, I hope you’re down for this episode full of some fantastic music!

23min of Ska : How Many Candles You Burning?

23skaTRUCKERcandlesburningIt’s my birthday early next week, so I thought I’d dig around in my records crate and pull out some tracks for an all vinyl episode of 23min of ska. Some of these tracks were later put out digitally, but I don’t have them. So yeah, there’s some clicks and pops and other random record sounds, this is mainly because I do only a small clean up of the music after the transfer. This is because I dig those little imperfections that come with vinyl and I don’t really want to remove that from the final product.

00:00 – the Mighty Mighty Bosstones – I won’t Go Out Like That (What the World Needs Now is Love ’17)
03:24 – Alex Desert & Greg Lee with Western Standard Time – All of Me (All of Me / Free Form ’15)

23min of Ska : 10-4 Good Buddy

23skaTRUCKERtenfourgoodbuddyAfter 2 solid ska/punk and high energy ska episodes in a row, I decided to take it down a notch on this one. Also, when I started this session of 23min of Ska I dedicated it to my friend Lawless, and well, it’s about to get a little Lawless up in here because I’m including a clutch of songs from his Moondust record label on this one. I’m keeping it a bit laid back to make the tone a little chill, but also to give us all a bit of breather to relax and reflect.

23min of Ska : the Halloween Issue!

23skaHALLOWEENAs a matter of principle and as a matter of keeping this show as evergreen as possible from week to week, I actually try had to not make shows that are themed around holidays or other events. And if I do, I try had to make it not so obvious. And then we have this… so yeah… look at those titles and you’re all like “Yup! Halloween episode alright!” but is it really? Could I have dropped this episode at any time and would it make you think “Halloween-ish?” I guess that is up for debate. I’d say entirely possible, but I’ve been wrong, oh so many times before! At the very least, I hope you truly enjoy this episode, as I hope you enjoy every episode!
